Day 5
Captain’s log, day 5. We wake up early (again) to meet our boat to Capri! Remember that giant spread of deliciousness that we had brought up yesterday? All of those morsels of delight are part of the complimentary continental breakfast here at ArtHotel Pasitea. Plus a juice bar, plus an espresso bar. Are you kidding me?! Marriott could take a few pointers. I can’t say enough great things about this hotel. Cheers to my tour guide Nicole for the accommodations! We arrive early so we sit at the beachside cafe and have a caffe. We board around 845 and head to Capri. It’s pretty overcast which helps with the heat, but makes the ride over a bit choppy. We meet an awesome woman from Canada, (Miche), some girls from SanFran, a couple from Chicago and two friends from Australia. Someone mentions having a white lotus moment and I profess my love for Jennifer Coolidge. I take a lil snooze on the bow until the waves get too rough. The mountains are massive and make us feel minuscule as we cut through the stunning blue waters. We stop by the Instagram-famous Blue Grotto but it’s 50€ pp, there is a two hour wait for boats to get in and it’s so packed you can’t even swim in it. The group agrees to forgo this ripoff and proceed on to Capri. We disembark at Marina Piccolo. It’s got some real MCM vibes with the colors and architecture. There’s more pebbles on shore but this time they’re lightly colored and make a beautiful contrast to the indigo water. We decide to take the bus to the city’s center. We wait a long time and eventually get into an over-crowded mini bus that navigates the windy roads with the precision of a power wheels driver. We’re indecisive about going on the chair lift; it’s a 25€ cab ride and it’s overcast so visibility could be minimal. As we’re talking to the very well-dressed cab driver, a British couple walks up to see if we want to split the ride up. Decision made; we’re going. Thank sweet baby J we do because it was awesome!! Even though it was cloudy, we could still see for miles. It was magical. I found it interesting to see people’s residences sprinkled in with all of the touristy stuff. We chug along up the mountain and I got to witness a mountain goat sneeze. When we finally arrive at the top, we decide to sit down and have a meal and beve at the beautiful restaurant. We have the most fresh ravioli and chicken caprese ever and consume our top-ranked limoncello spritz. Note: The key is to add mint. We clean our plates and head back down to the marina. We stop at a beautiful grotto on our way back that has a place for us to jump in and swim. It’s freezing but refreshing. Our boat captain, Francesco, brought NOODLES for us and I couldn’t be happier. After swimming for a few, we head back to Positano. We decide to take it easy for the night and go to the hotel. We take showers and a wee nap, then go up the mountain to a more residential area for dinner. It’s delish. It seems like the perfect night as we stroll back to the hotel and then I see it: a playground with a donkey on a springy thingy. I’m left with no other choice but to hop on and play 12 Gauge’s hit single “Dunkie Butt” in the background whilst (soberly!) riding it. NOW my day is complete. Buonanotte to this beautiful, magical little place. We’re off to Florence and Anabella DeLoreto bright and early tomorrow!!
PS I am a little upset I didn’t take advantage of the opportunity to wear capris and drink a Capri Sun while smoking a Capri. Next time.
