Day 6

Captain’s log day 6: We wake up early and say goodbye to the precious little seaside town of Positano. We eat another scrumptious breakfast, have a cappucino and make our way to the port. We are ahead of schedule so we sit down and decide to have some Prosecco before making our journey. We see the ferry is leaving early and have to run with luggage, and now a bottle of Prosecco, down the cobblestone dock with onlookers laughing at us. We make it though and find our way to seats on the front of the boat. The ride is smooth and the scenery is gorgeous. I highly recommend this mode of travel when you have the opportunity to come here. We take more pictures, contemplate the meaning of life and arrive in Salerno to be greet by the one, the only Giuseppe!! I really think this man may live at the dock. We do a little jig then proceed to try to have a redo of that delicious charcuterie we’d had a few days before. It’s not the same. We share the plate with wee Giuseppe (whose real name is Pedro), finish our spritzes and make our way to the train. It’s about 4 hours to Florence, so we get cozy, nap and catch up on real life for a bit. We arrive in Florence, grab Nicole’s luggage (from her last leg here) from the storage locker, both vow to pack lighter from this trip forward, then find our cute little flat. Florence reminds me of a movie set/Disney World street. It’s busy, but not as hectic as Rome. The streets are clean and wider and people seem less angry, too. The doors of the buildings are each unique and beautiful. We meet precious Belle who shows us the FSU Florence campus. She and her classmates are so fortunate to be studying in this place with such rich history. I’m excited to see how this experience will shape her in the years to come. We eat another delicious meal consisting of more carbs and rich sauce, and spinach and broccoli flan. The fundal height from my Italian food baby is measuring at approximately 23 weeks at this point. We finish up and walk Belle to her apartment. They have facial recognition software to allow entry; the mix of the ancient building along with new technology is so odd. There are so. many. stairs in the small, zigzagging stairwell to her apartment and though I’d just sworn off stairs for the rest of my life, we climb them. She shares her apartment with five other girls. It’s adorable and while small, is adequately spaced. It’s perfect. We say buonanotte and head to our flat. Something I ate is not agreeing with me, so we go on a quest for antacids. We find an Indian market still open and while he has no tums, he does have ajwain seeds and instructs me to make a tea from them. I’m desperate so I agree. We arrive at the flat and I’m not in the best shape, but that’s not the captain’s log anyone wants to hear about. I make the tea, choke it down and head to bed. It really does help and I’m grateful to learn of a new natural remedy! We call it a night and look forward to exploring Firenze tomorrow. Ciao now brown cow!
